Can you really get rid of existing wrinkles?

Can you really get rid of existing wrinkles?

I truly believe that the only way to completely get rid of existing wrinkles is through plastic surgery or cosmetic fillers. So many creams on the market say they will get rid of wrinkles. If they could they would be considered a drug and not a cosmetic cream.  Anti-wrinkle creams temporarily increase the water content in the top layers of skin improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  Once you stop using the product the wrinkles return. We are meant to age and not look like our 15 year old children.

So what can you do? You can help slow down the skin’s aging process but you cannot stop it. Wrinkles occur because we stop producing collagen. Collagen is a protein that keeps the skin firm. When collagen levels are high our skin looks younger but when these levels start to drop, we lose that support and wrinkles begin. It is important that we eat foods that are high in collagen: dark green vegetables,  red fruit and vegetables,  fish, flax seed, soy, berries, citrus fruit, raw garlic, protein (beans and/or meat), dark chocolate, avocado to name a few.

There are however many things we can do to help improve the appearance of our skin:

For me the most important thing I do is drink water.  When my body is not hydrated the wrinkles on my face seem to be more pronounced but when I drink a minimum of 1 liter of water a day they reduce significantly and some even go away completely. Hydrate from the inside out.

Exercise is critical as it increases blood circulation which sends  oxygen to our skin plus it increases natural collagen production. Sex and orgasms do the same thing.  If your single, explore your body on your own..remember orgasms help to reduce wrinkles  : )

Moisturize your skin by using moisturizers, lotions, anti-oxidant oils.  Keep your skin clean using cleansers, scrubs and clay masks.  BTW: just using water and nothing else actually dries your skin…soap is also drying on your face.

Diet (you knew this one was coming) plays such an important role.  You are what you eat so make sure you are feeding your body fresh fruits, vegetables and healthy oils.

Do not expose your skin to the sun for long periods of time, smoke or drink to much alcohol as it is dehydrating.

Accept your age. People who age gracefully accept that aging is natural and normal. Take care of yourself,  love yourself and celebrate your years and your wisdom.
