In order to make a hand and body lotion, a small amount of emulsifier and binding agents are added to achieve the appropriate texture and avoid separation. Ultimately, I decided to use small amounts of glyceryl monostearate (derived from palm oil and vegetable glycerin), palm stearic (derived from palm oil), xantham gum (derived from corn).
The hand and body lotions also contain all the other types of ingredients our customers have come to expect in a CARŌL’S product, such as organic aloe vera; olive, grape seed, wheat germ, hemp and almond oils; and organic herbs such as St. Johns Wort, calendula, lavender, chickweed, and various pure essential oils.
My second consideration in developing the hand and body lotions was in coming up with a suitable formulation. Feedback from our customers was that most competitive products were either too sticky or too oily or too waxy. TheCARŌL’S Hand and Body Lotions have a rich, smooth and silky feel.
