Natural Skin Care Ingredients and Descriptions

When I formulate a Life Root product, I set some very rigid standards. The products contain organic ingredients as available. If I would not use it on myself or my children, I will not use it in my products. All herbs are either certified organic or wild crafted (harvested in their wild natural state). One of my most enjoyable activities every year is the annual harvesting I go through to obtain fresh ingredients. Life Root products are designed to be hypoallergenic, chemical free and cruelty free.

Below is a description of each ingredient used. The following information is not intended as medical advice. Its intention is solely educational.

Herbs

Aloe (Aloe Vera)

Soothes sunburn and minor burns; relieves insect bites, skin irritations, minor cuts and scratches.

Calendula (C. Officianalis)

Benefits slow healing wounds, sores and bruises; has anti-fungal properties.

Chickweed (Stellaria Media)

Benefits cuts, scratches, itching, skin irritations, rashes, eczema and psoriasis.

Comfrey (Symphytum Officianalis)

Aids in the healing of superficial wounds, bruises, sores and insect bites; guards against scar tissue development. Please note: do not use products containing comfrey on deep cuts.

Evening Primrose (Oenothera Biennis)

Useful for rashes and other skin irritations.

Echinacea

Echinacea belongs to the daisy family of plants. An immune system booster

Golden Seal (Hydrastis canadenis)

A natural antibiotic and a remedy for various gastric and genitourinary disorders.

Lavender (Lavandula Officianalis)

Aids in wound healing, burns, insect bites; antiseptic, disinfectant and insecticide properties; calming to the nervous system.

Marshmallow (Althea Officianalis)

Useful for skin irritations, burns, carbuncles, and wounds.

Myrhh (Commiphora myrrha)

Astringent, healing, and stimulant actions. Used to treat spongy gums and ulcerated throats.

Peppermint (Mentha Piperita)

Cooling effect on the skin; helps relieve itching; has antiseptic properties; repellent against mosquitoes.

Plantain (Plantago Lanceolata)

Aids wound healing, sores, cuts, scratches; relieves insect bites and hemorrhoids.

Rose

Tones the skin; helps reduce wrinkles.

St. John's Wort (Hypericum Perforatum)

Helps heal burns, wounds, sores, bruises and other skin problems.

Witch Hazel (Hamamelis Virginiana)

A natural, non-drying astringent, tonic, and sedative.astringent, valuable in checking internal and external haemorrhage, useful for bruises and inflammatory swellings.
